Frequently asked questions

Answers to the most common questions about TUKE cloud services.

All cloud services are completely free for all active students and staff of the Technical University of Košice. No credit card or payment details needed. Services are funded through the UVP TECHNICOM project.
All active students and employees of the Technical University of Košice. Virtual servers and web hosting are requested via a form; Cloud Disk, the ML platform and Docker Registry are available right after signing in with your university account. Access is blocked automatically when your studies or employment end.
Virtual server requests are usually approved within 24 hours on business days; requests are not processed on weekends and holidays. Web hosting requests usually take 1 – 2 business days. You will be notified by email once approved.
The Cloud portal, virtual servers, the ML platform and Docker Registry are reachable only from the TUKE network or via TUKE VPN. Web hosting, Cloud Disk, Ubuntu Mirror and the NTP server work from the internet without VPN.
Virtual servers are backed up weekly via VEEAM and snapshots. Web hosting is backed up daily. Cloud Disk is backed up to two geographically separate locations and deleted files go to the trash. The ML platform is not permanent storage, so back up important data yourself.
All VMs are protected by the TUKE Check Point firewall. To open external ports, submit a request to vcloud@helpdesk.tuke.sk. Ports are opened only after approval.
Every server has a 90-day lease. You get an email before it expires and can renew it in the Cloud portal via Deployments → Actions → Change Lease. If you do not renew it, the server is shut down and deleted 90 days later.
